Gymnase est une création chorégraphique qui tente de déployer un continuum de significations au- tour du gymnase entre récits des corps qui l’ont traversé dans son histoire et d’interroger les corps qui s’y inscrivent et qui le traversent – tout en s’emparant du gymnase comme espace de possibles, où pourrait naître des alternatives et s’exprimer de nouvelles utopies.
Linoléum strié de lignes, lumières froides et intenses, paniers de basketball perchés en hauteur, odeurs caractéristiques de plastique vieilli et de vestiaires. À évoquer ces quelques éléments plas- tiques du gymnase, les souvenirs et les émotions s’embrasent; les histoires surgissent. Ces récits inspirés par la matérialité du lieu président à la création de GYMNASE, doublés d’une réflexion sur le gymnase comme espace politique et comme lieu du commun, ou encore comme éducation des corps.
La phase 1 de recherche a été réalisée avec une première équipe et présentée en maquette au festival Open-Spaces en 2020, au Théâtre de l’étoile du nord (Paris).

The gymnasium, is a space of "dramaturgy of reality" used in this artistic research, in order to grasp its versatility, it’s plasticity and its inclusion in contemporary bodies.
Registering at the heart of the gymnasium means creating a laboratory of contemporary stories of the place and of the bodies that cross it; it’s to highlight all the complexity of the forces that are exerted there - from the entrance to the locker room to the space dedicated to sports practice. It also means resizing this space through the choreographic gesture and nurturing a political reflection to revisit this space through the event and the relationship to the collective as a place of manifestation. These links tell, in their own way of our contemporary times, the politics of the individual and the collective that exist in our societies, and which can be reinvented in dance.
In a society where the image of the body wants to be more and more mastered by its performance and its plastic standardization, what kind of body diversity is shown to us on these sports fields? When the gymnasium becomes an agora, what do the choreographies of body activity tell us?
Phase 1 of the research was carried out with a first team and presented as a scale model at the Open Space festival in 2020, at the Théâtre de l'étoile du nord (Paris).
